Since Some of Y'all Seem Confused

Alert the presses, the Americans are confused again.  This time it's about the difference between Jews and Israel.  If I had a nickel for every post I saw on social media conflating the two, I'd have... a shit-ton of nickels.  Whether well-meaning or intentional and in bad faith, this confusion needs to end.  Let me try & clear it up for you:

Jews = Human beings of any ethnicity who follow the religion of Judaism.

Israel = a state in the Middle East established in 1948.  Home to Jews from a variety of political and religious orientations (conservative, liberal, Ultra-Orthodox, secular, Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Mizrahi) as well as Arab Muslims & Christians and a growing number of migrant workers from places like Romania, Africa and Thailand.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
See the difference?  One refers to a people, the other refers to a nation-state & its governing body.
Likewise, folks stay confused about what constitutes "antisemitism".  Unlike the confusion mentioned above though, this variety of befuddlement is a result of intentional ongoing efforts on the part of Zionists (we'll get to them later!) to conflate a hatred of Jewish people with criticism of the state of Israel.  Let me clear THAT up:
Antisemitism = hating Jewish people for their race/religion alone regardless of where they reside on the planet.  Often involves generalizing Jews as a monolithic group or sharing undesirable features, such as being "greedy," "disloyal to the nations they reside in" or "controlling the media".  Drawing caricatures of Jews with exaggerated features like a large nose & bulging eyes like Hitler's propaganda is antisemitic.  Kanye West's recent manic outburst was antisemitic.  Mel Gibson's rant, err, rants in the 2000s & beyond was were antisemitic.
Anti-Zionism = Opposition to the existence or behavior of the nation-state of Israel.  Anti-Zionism comes in several degrees of intensity, the mildest being merely disagreeing with the actions of the Israeli government and military (i.e. endlessly expanding & removing Palestinians from their homes).  Believing that the state of Israel in its current location/iteration should not exist is another variation while the most extreme form is opposition to the existence of a homeland for ANY race/religion of people, as such a place requires the forcible removal of the native population.  Not all Jews support Israel, with some strongly criticizing the Netanyahu government's policies & military actions & others--such as many Ultra-Orthodox groups--not recognizing the state of Israel as legitimate at all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Again, see the distinction?

Indeed, conflating "antisemitism" with anti-Zionism is a dirty trick propagated by Zionists for a very well-defined purpose:  bullying people into supporting Israel no matter how many war crimes and crimes against humanity it commits while shutting down any criticism of its leaders.  Nobody wants to be called the equivalent of a racist or bigot, and once you do that the debate suddenly becomes about something else entirely.  Visions of the Holocaust are summoned to mind and a shouting match ensues.  Somehow Israel's atrocities never get the attention they deserve because everyone's too busy arguing about the definition of antisemitism & other such terms.

But what do actual Holocaust survivors have to say about what's going on in Gaza?  Like any group, I'm sure they're divided but here's what one brave precious lady had to say:

She's not the only one to draw the comparison.  Children of Holocaust victims like Norman Finkelstein have been vocally outspoken against Israel's actions over the years as well, often to the detriment of their career and livelihood (and sometimes even their safety).  Dr. Cornel West, Independent candidate for president in 2024, stepped down from his position at Harvard that spanned 5 decades in 2021 because they refused to offer him tenure due in large part to his support of Palestine.  Now those same Ivy League institutions are siccing cops on students who dare to protest Israel's actions on their campuses in what feels like a throwback to the Vietnam War protests of the '60s.  Hopefully it doesn't reach the level of Kent State this time, but I put nothing past our militarized police force.

President Biden, who has stated on numerous occasions that he is a Zionist or would be one if he were Jewish, has just sent a multi-billion dollar aid package to Israel to help them bomb Palestinian civilians back into the Stone Age when our own nation is falling apart at the seams--a "gift" we simply can't afford.  Israel is not a developing country that needs our charity, yet year upon year we send them aid as if they were starving Ethiopians with no indoor plumbing & a looming AIDS crisis.  Our presidents have a long history of doing this whether conservative or liberal.  RFK, presumptive Democratic presidential candidate in 1968, was assassinated by a Palestinian Christian whose family was driven out of Palestine by Israel's military brutality.  The assassin originally supported RFK, who billed himself as the candidate who stood for the downtrodden and oppressed, until he heard him give a speech promising to send 50 fighter jets to Israel which he could not wrap his mind around.  The rest is history.  Incredibly tragic history.

This begs the uncomfortable question: how many terrorists are being created by America and Israel's unholy alliance?  By decades of displacing, land grabbing, bombing, starving, exiling, illegal occupation & genocide against native Palestinians?  Would terrorism exist if not for our own actions in the Middle East as a whole?  Why do we remain involved in these faraway conflicts to the tune of trillions when we have starving homeless people under every bridge right here at home?   Who profits?  Certainly not us, and absolutely not Arabs or Palestinians, who make up a majority in the Israeli/Palestinian region.  Aside from Halliburton, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Honeywell & other military weapons manufacturers, I'm drawing a blank.

I don't claim to be a fountain of knowledge on this issue; I have no loved ones in Gaza and have never been there myself.  However I do think it's important to clarify the definitions of these terms to combat the spread of misinformation which exists on all sides of all wars.  If you happen to live in the U.S., the propaganda is mostly pro-Israel as they're our allies (just as it was anti-Vietcong during the Vietnam war, anti-Taliban in Iraq/Afghanistan & pro-Contra in the Nicaragua conflict).  In case you couldn't tell, I'm firmly on the side of peaceful coexistence.

Pick A Door, Any Door

The time for indecision & ambivalence is over--your destiny awaits.  Either you make a conscious choice to continue with the safe but stagnant & soulless Devil You Know, or you take a chance on making your wildest dreams come true with the Angel You Don't.  Choosing either door closes the other to you forevermore.  Of course you're also free to pick neither door & leave empty-handed.  What'll it be, safe slavery behind
Door #1 or dangerous freedom behind Door #Infinity

Hurry, time is running out & you're not the only one with options.

                 ðŸšŠ #1                                      ðŸšŠ # Infinity
ðŸŠĶðŸ‘ŋðŸ”Ĩ              .👞.

Which would you choose if presented with this option?  The "safe" straight & narrow path or the wild & winding road?  Be honest.

In my opinion, far too many people stick with the Devil They Know, wasting their one beautiful life on a losing hand, doubling down when they should've folded & defending their irrational moves with a terrible poker face all the while.  It's only in their final days--sometimes on their death beds--that it hits them what a mistake this was.  They likely knew on some level all along but when it REALLY dawns on them not only how much unnecessary bullshit they tolerated but what they missed out on, something akin to a mental breakdown occurs.  Rightfully so.  This life is not a dress rehearsal; there are no do-overs or second takes.  🎎

There are many reasons people choose Door #1: fear of change or vulnerability, the Sunk Cost Fallacy, putting financial security above true love & compatibility, cultural customs & expectations, social acceptance through conformity... but ultimately you're trading your happiness, individuality, freedom & dreams--in essence, sacrificing your very LIFE--for glorified domestic slavery, often to someone who's incompatible at best & abusive at worst.  And if you have children, they become collateral damage in your egotistical battle of wills.  You may think you're hiding your unhappiness from them but trust me, you're not.  Kids, even very young ones, are much more perceptive than we give them credit for & find ways to blame themselves for everything

I say this as a product of a couple of "Door 1" lifers who never made even modest attempts to hide their self-inflicted misery & talked more seriously about ways they could kill each other without getting caught than divorce.  I can forgive a lot but I can't forgive that.  You have no right to sacrifice your kids' emotional development & future well-being for the convenience of fighting IN the house over things like scorched gravy & who touched the thermostat.  Nasty, violent fights sometimes ending in police sirens or DHS visits & often with several kids under 10 on their knees begging you to divorce... something most kids fear almost as much as a parent dying.  And these "doors" apply to more than romantic relationships.  Jobs/careers, places of residence, financial investments and other pivotal high-stakes decisions can also present this conundrum.

While uninspiring, Door #1 does have its lures.  It offers the path of least resistance & demands no major forethought or vulnerability.  It's low-risk, familiar, predictable & certainly easier in the short-term because it's where your momentum is already headed or has already carved out a path.  You're just doing what you were already doing so to speak.  It's not likely to lead to total financial ruin or reputational damage, at least not right away.

As they say, a ship in harbor is safe & gathers no moss.  (Or maybe that's "a rolling stone...")

 Either way, ships weren't made to sit in the harbor.  They're built to explore new vistas; to navigate stormy waters & carry passengers to destinations they could only dream of before.  And make no mistake:  the long-term costs of choosing Door #1 over Door #Infinity can be so high it's hard to truly convey them in words.  Compromising your integrity, sacrificing your health & mental stability, stagnation/failure to thrive spiritually, loneliness, isolation, humiliation, exploitation, enabling abusive behavior & thus impeding the OTHER person's growth, & deep aching regret are just a FEW consequences of choosing the Devil You Know behind that deceptive door.

It feels easy because you're "doing what you always did" but that just means you'll "get what you always got" as a result.  Maybe you're okay with that, but then why are you even at this fork in the road where you must choose between these 2 doors?  People who are happy & fulfilled don't end up here.  In fact any safety/security behind that door evaporates the second you open it because it's all an illusion ("...Surprise!").  That was just the false comfort of going through life on autopilot & choosing short-term comfort over working for delayed rewards.  True security doesn't make you feel drained, degraded, defeated & unsettled in your soul.

Some people work so hard and come so far in life only to stop maddeningly short of the finish line, pulling into port at the very moment they should be correcting course & heading into the glittering orange horizon.  The truly frustrating part is, there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it.  No amount of love, encouragement, emotional support or pleading will move them an inch.  As long as they're committed to stubbornly repeating toxic cycles with the same toxic people, all you can do is try your best not to say "I told you so" as you sit on the sidelines & watch their ship rust & decay alone--perhaps surrounded by people but always frightfully & disconcertingly alone--in a dead end, barren boatyard of their own choosing.  Such is life & the horrors behind Door #1.

(Not to influence your decision or anything).

Hypocrisy, Hostility & Hate: Exploring America's Identity Crisis

"My people."  Just who are my people, exactly?  Where is my "home" if my ancestors come from as many diverse & far-flung parts of the planet as there have been wars in our nation's history?  If my ancestors include both runaway slaves & sadistic slave-owners?  Both Native Americans & the monsters who stole their land, gifted them pox blankets & introduced them to the firewater that now plagues their people?

One of many interesting finds on Ancestry.com...

...and another from the same side of the family.

Thus is the conundrum for Americans, many of whom share a similarly mixed background & elusive ancestral history.  (I actually have one "branch" of my family tree that is tri-racial--Black, white and Native American all in one--hailing from the Appalachias during the height of slavery.  Genetic tests recently revealed that these people, who were once referred to as the "Last Lost Tribe of America," descended from a rare consensual relationship between a free Black African male & a white European woman before slavery).  For centuries people speculated about what exotic race these folks might be: everything from Greek to ancient Phoenician to Egyptian, Jewish & Portuguese was tossed around.  When they found out the truth--that it was actually just the 3 races that were already here when the country was founded--there was a ton of backlash & denial.  I even recall that a couple of the amazing people conducting the DNA tests received threats that they'd "better not find any African DNA" or similar.  Sad, but not surprising in this lovely "melting pot" of hate.

People from other countries laugh at our "obsession" with genealogy & mock our desire to identify ourselves by race/ethnicity, but we're the only country on Earth where the entire population (save for the few remaining Native Americans) are from places OTHER THAN HERE.  A country of destination rather than origin.  Black people generally don't know which part of Africa they come from but neither do whites, who often have ancestors from all over the UK as well as other parts of Europe like Russia, Germany, Italy, Greece, Norway, the Netherlands or Sweden.  Ethnic purity is non-existent in anyone who's been here more than a couple generations because NONE of us is entirely from any one country.  If you disagree, hop on FamilySearch.org or Ancestry.com and you'll learn differently in a hurry.  And surprise:  Many "white" folks are nothing of the sort, actually consisting of a much more mixed racial makeup than they know or acknowledge.  They mock Blacks for the "we wuz kangz" thing while unironically jacking off to "Western culture" & claiming the historically racist Confederate flag represents "heritage, not hate" & pretending to have "Viking blood".  {Snort}.

When you go to Finland, you'll find Finnish people.  In China, Chinese.  In Ireland, you're surrounded by Irish folks and Nigeria is brimming with Nigerian people.  But in the U.S, you get "Americans," all of whom live in the same land but may speak different languages & regional dialects, worship different gods (if any), have (wildly) different skin tones, political beliefs & lifestyles.  We're a giant social experiment and so far it hasn't gone well.  From slavery to neo-slavery to the Trail of Tears to the 2017 "Unite the Right" rally in Charleston resulting in 1 death & many injuries to our current treatment of Mexican immigrants, the U.S. has a serious racism & xenophobia problem.

But it doesn't end there, because we also have colossal disagreements about religion and its place in society, from battles over prayer in school to Christian terrorists bombing abortion clinics in the name of "God," which rivals some of the Taliban's Greatest Hits in terms of violence & barbarity.  Ironic since this country was founded on the basis of breaking away from monarchy to establish religious freedom.

And misogyny + its ugly mutant cousin homophobia are an ever-present spectre haunting the land.  The U.S. is a hyper-masculine, warlike nation that has never had a female president in its 200+ years.  The one time we did seriously try that, chants of "Lock her up!" echoed through right-wing rallies in a way that felt like a run-up to the Salem Witch Trials 2.0.  Sure, Clinton is a corporate warmongering demon just like her male counterparts, but this hatred was something more sinister, attacking her looks, her relationship with her sleazy/Epstein-connected husband & making outlandish claims about her drinking the blood of children in devil-worshiping rituals.

Regular women in this country aren't treated much better, continuously being forced to fight for our basic bodily autonomy & human rights.  We're currently losing that battle, with many states (including mine) banning abortion while leaving child marriage perfectly legal.  Domestic abuse, rape & child abuse are practically decriminalized as most offenders get no more than slap-on-the-wrist sentences like anger management classes, community service or nothing at all.  And gays/lesbians will remain a permanent underclass because our uneducated populace refuses to understand the difference between "minority/different" and "sick/abnormal".

Indeed, we are a nation in search of a national identity, a rootless tree with branches growing in directionless circles, starving & choking out the base.  We say we want freedom but are only willing to fight for the freedoms WE personally value, putting feelings above facts & the fact that we're "offended" above everything.  Conservatives push "small government" but fight to literally outlaw basic personal freedoms like family planning through practical sex education, contraception & abortion; adult drug use & gay marriage, attempting to lock up & demonize anyone who lives & loves differently than they do.  But suggest even the most modest gun laws, religious or corporate restrictions & they flip their MAGA hats.  Never mind that corporations, billionaires & religious orgs already have far too much freedom to do things like not pay taxes & most Republicans are NOT in this category themselves.

Liberals, on the other hand, claim to stand for tolerance, diversity, information & progressive ideals, yet they support a fascist form of censorship & compelled speech, finding it perfectly acceptable for anyone who uses the "wrong pronouns" (read: right pronouns)  to get fired, threatened or doxxed & supporting the transfer of trans-identified male prisoners to women's prisons among other horrors.  Despite their alleged devotion to facts & science, liberals have become the new evolution deniers with this whole gender > sex mindset, which is no less a religion than the many branches of the Christian faith they so often mock & demean.  And their "sex work is work" mantra is every bit as backward & harmful to women/girls as the right's belief that a woman's place is in the home.  One sees us as private property, the other as public property.  Either way, women lose.

The hypocrisy on both ends absolutely reeks, yet both sides are completely blind to their particular brand of bullshit.  Could our stinking hypocrisy as well as our deepening division that never really went away after the Civil War have something to do with our lack of a cohesive national identity?  The fact that, not only are we all from such divergent backgrounds that we can't bridge the divide between us, but our individual ancestries are such a mishmash of contradictory & tragic stories we don't know who we are as individuals?

I pose this question on the day after Donald Trump, Republican candidate for president in 2024, was shot in the ear at a rally, grazed by a bullet fired into the crowd by a rooftop assailant, killing one spectator & injuring others.  (And in true American fashion, liberal opponents in the comment section are making hideous jokes/snide remarks that sound exactly like something Trump supporters would say had the tables been turned while failing to see the absolutely absurd levels of hypocrisy in that).  Hopefully this event was an ugly one-off but I see it as one of those turning point moments where things just continue to descend into chaos.  Chris Hedges refers to them as small moments that change the course of history & spark the destruction of nations from the inside.  Here's hoping I'm wrong.

MLK & Jesus: A Lesson in Historical Whitewashing

"History is written by the victors."  --- Winston Churchill

 "The victor writes the history books." --- Unknown

However you word it & whomever you attribute it to, this quote sadly has stood the test of time, proving itself accurate from Biblical times through the new millennium to the present day.  Facts, those annoying little inconvenient tidbits of truth, have never been allowed to stand in the way of a good old dumbed-down narrative, be it religious, patriotic or otherwise. Take the parallel life trajectories of Martin Luther King and Jesus Christ, for instance:  Both men used their lives to spread a message--unpopular at the time--of love, acceptance & humility; of helping the outcast & living simple lives of service while working toward a more fair & just world.  By the end both men knew they would be killed for these teachings.  But it's what happened in the wake of their tragic deaths that is truly noteworthy.

As long as Christ and King stayed in their lanes (performing "miracles" & discussing race relations, respectively) society tolerated them.  But as soon as they showed the least bit of anti-establishment sentiment & attempted to tackle larger issues--namely organized greed by those in power--it was a wrap.

Takedown of Dr. King by the NY Times (April 7, 1967)

MLK's flock (including liberal publications) turned on him after his April 4th, 1967, anti-Vietnam War speech, which he gave exactly one year to the day before his assassination.  Even his most ardent supporters denounced him in long rambling editorials in the liberal media, accusing him of stepping outside his wheelhouse & alienating his supporter base.  "Stick to race relations" he was told in no uncertain terms.  The madding crowd in Jesus' story came for Him after He angrily flipped a table over inside a Jewish temple on the highest Holiest day of Passover, protesting the greed of religious leaders who were taking money in exchange for prayers & blessings (a practice known simply as "tithing" today).  This was the only documented show of "human" emotion He ever displayed & He knew it would lead to His death, as merely being caught picking up sticks on the Sabbath could get you stoned to death in those days.  Meanwhile MLK's last speech referenced the Good Samaritan parable from the New Testamrent & alluded strongly to his impending death (emphasis mine):

"We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountain top. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life – longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And he's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over, and I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. And so I'm happy tonight; I'm not worried about anything; I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”

After finishing this speech King stumbled to the side of the stage & collapsed, exhausted.  He'd been under the weather all day & the weather itself was chaotic & stormy.  The following morning, April 4th, 1968, he would be shot dead on his hotel balcony.  At the time he was conducting a Poor People's Campaign in Tennessee similar to Fred Hampton's Rainbow Coalition that brought together poor white Appalachians, Puerto Ricans & inner city Blacks on the basis of their shared class struggles.  Fred Hampton of course was cut down by 91 police bullets while he slept after being drugged by a police informant.

Shortly before Jesus walked to the cross he began to sweat blood, a condition known as
Hematidrosis--an extremely rare phenomenon that happens when a terrified person knows their death is imminent.  Only a few cases have ever been reported in the medical literature with His being among them.  This makes His torture & death that much sadder in my mind, as it means He was acutely aware of what was to come.

The Aftermath

The MLK you never knew  ðŸ–Ī

In the cases of both MLK & Jesus, The Powers That Be seem to have said "Whoa, maybe we went too far in killing these men.  Now we look like the baddies!  Shit, we'd better do something... give the people something to soothe their anger so they don't revolt.  I know!  We'll create a religion named after Jesus/give MLK a national holiday!   Neither one is here to actually ENJOY these things, but better late than never, right? We just have to tone down the rhetoric & sanitize the message, like, a LOT.  Can't have the People getting any big ideas & doing things to interfere with our little "system." And thus they got together to draft THEE Holy Bible and create the simpleton soundbites that would play every MLK Day for all eternity.  (By "they" I don't mean some shadowy illuminati but people from the same organizations that assassinated these men--religious men in Jesus' time and the FBI/CIA in King's time).

Both Christ and King were a threat to the very profitable systems (organized religion and the military-industrial complex) that require the exploitation of human beings for their very existence.  These systems operate on social hierarchies & economic inequality, thus anyone who gains a following while denouncing them becomes a threat that must be neutralized.  Not just the person but the MESSAGE itself.  And when these men were killed, their complex, inspiring, dangerous messages were distilled down to overly simplified 4 and 5-word cliche soundbites by the people who killed them:  namely, "I have a dream" and "Jesus died for your sins."

You'll never hear excerpts* from King's arresting anti-Vietnam speech or his quotes about how capitalism is as "evil as racism" on the national holiday named in his honor, and that's by design.  (And it's also by design that Fred Hampton, Malcolm X and the other dead Black revolutionaries with tactics very different from but complementary to King are purposefully not commemorated by our government, and that the Black Panthers are painted as the minority equivalent to the KKK when they were neither Black separatists nor supremacists).

Likewise, you'll almost never hear the real reason Jesus was murdered in YOUR church or any other place of worship because He was protesting religious leaders of temples & churches when he was killed.  That would be bad for business.  He had very few kind words to say about church during his brief life, yet "Christians" today base so much of their identity on attending church & praying/worshiping in public--another practice Jesus loathed and warned us against
The cognitive dissonance is too strong so they stick to cliches like "Jesus died for your sins," telling us egregious lies like "even newborn babies are born sinners".  (Ironically, or perhaps predictably, a church was built over the site where Jesus was tortured and killed--the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.  How's that for morbid).

These messages are intended to induce guilt/fear & keep you coming back through their doors & emptying your pockets into the collection plates indefinitely because you can never be free of sin as long as you reside in this human body.  These fear-based sermons are not without real psychological & social harms, reinforcing inequality between the races & sexes while driving parents to abuse their kids & the mentally ill to "mercifully kill" theirs to save them from the clutches of Satan like Andrea Yates did when she drowned her 5 children in the bathtub to spare them an eternity in Hell

In terms of greed, what today's Christian churches do is many times worse than the Jewish temples & synagogues of Jesus' day because the scale is so much greater:  from the megachurches to the televangelists to the "prosperity gospel,"  these things are the antithesis of everything Christ stood for, plus they're doing it in His name.

Assange vs. the U.S.:  a modern David vs. Goliath story?

Prediction:

If Julian Assange dies in prison in the coming months or years, his message too will be distilled down to an oversimplified soundbite like "Free speech is vital for democracy."  All the highly-specific critiques he made about individuals, political parties, capitalism, the military-industrial complex, orgs like the CIA, corporations like Google & Facebook, nations like the USA & Britain and more will be conveniently memoryholed by the media, which is owned by a handful of about 6 billionaires with a vested interest in shutting him and others like him up.  Ditto every other freedom fighter currently locked down or on the run worldwide.  They will be crucified in life & remembered warmly but vaguely--always vaguely--in death.

Keep this in mind before you risk your life for a cause, any cause.  The minute you expire, you hand over the reigns of your legacy to those who control the press & thus, the history books.  (That's assuming you even make enough of a splash to be noticed or written about at all).  Fight instead for your right to a long, healthy and FREE life in which you can enjoy & author your own story--warts & all.  You have a right to be here & to use your life as you see fit, whether that's serving the poor & needy or fucking in the streets while high on jenkem & bananadine.  ðŸ’Đ  🍌

And just remember, if they could do it to Jesus & our greatest social/political revolutionaries, they can do it to you.

.
Update 6/26/24:  Assange has been FREED in Australia after agreeing to a plea deal with the U.S!  Still, I suspect he won't truly get off Scott-free & will be under surveillance for the rest of his days.  If he so much as types 'Wikilea--' into a Google searchbar the Feds will descend on him like a pack of hungry vultures.  We'll be watching with hopeful eyes & bated breath.
