How Big is a Trillion?

Since Americans don't seem to understand large numbers, here's a conversion to time that'll help put it in perspective:  


1 million seconds = 11.5 days

1 billion seconds = 31 years

1 trillion seconds = 31,709 years


1 million is far closer to 0 than it is to 1 billion, therefore a millionaire has more in common financially with the average working class (or even homeless) person than he has with a billionaire.  Five people--Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison, Mark Zuckerberg & Bernard Arnault--are on track to become the world's first trillionaires in the next decade, yet these same exhausted, sick working class Americans go to bat for the "rights" of a few people to hoard that much wealth.

Our environment and economy are both dangerously out of balance due to the deliberate failure of educational institutions to actually educate people.  This is not a bug but a feature.  We're taught advanced algebra, geometry & calculus in high school without gaining a basic understanding of what numbers represent.  It's like learning to read without understanding the definition of a single word on the page.
